Ballet provides the foundation for many other dance forms. It is the most demanding, most disciplined of all dance forms; but also the most rewarding. With a solid ballet foundation, classically trained dancers can transfer their skills into jazz, modern dance, or any other dance form they might decide to pursue. Staccato Dance Works emphasizes the correct and safe approach to technique, ensuring that young bodies are physically ready to perform ballet moves of increasing difficulty. SDW develops the flexibility, strength, endurance, muscle memory, discipline, and attention to detail that are essential to each dancer’s growth.
Jazz dance is influenced by many dance forms. Often quick-paced dancing to modern music. At SDW students begin by working on basic jazz steps while learning to count and stay poised. As students advance in skill, SDW offers continued technical foundation which enables a dancer to focus on the stylistic and performance aspects of a jazz dance routine. Proper technique and correct posture are essential for jumps and turns, as well as the strong and sharp movements of the choreography. Jazz dance at SDW is supported by a good background in ballet technique. Students in a jazz class at SDW will focus on poise and control of their body’s center being used at the focal point from which all movement emanates. Classes include stretching to warm up the muscles and help prevent injuries by warming up and elongating leg muscles and strengthening the core.
Tap is the art of rhythm with your feet and is a form of percussion. In a tap class at Staccato students learn how to count music while dancing progressing in speed and complexity through advanced classes. At SDW students will learn how to make intricate sounds with their feet while working on keeping their balance. With a focus on clean clear sounds and syncopation. Tapping is performed both with music and at times without musical accompaniment (a cappella). In group tap dances all must work together to create the sound keeping their steps at the correct speed to match each other.
Hip Hop at Staccato is a high energy class for all that uses the latest music combined with movement & choreography inspired by today’s hottest music artists, music videos, and tours. Students will learn how to pop, lock, and break in this art form as well as how to control their body isolating muscles to the beat of the music. SDW provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop dance movements in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment. These energetic classes not only teach Hip Hop movements and technique but also instills rhythm and precision in your muscle memory. Hip Hop classes utilize upbeat rap, R&B, and pop music combined with elements of popping and locking, acrobatics and breaking, as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style.
AcroDance is the fusion of classical dance technique and the athleticism of acrobatic elements. Acro technique includes learning the proper progressions of balancing, flexibility, limbering, and tumbling along with strength. Ex. Handstands, cartwheels, and walkovers.
